I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and my family. God has richly blessed me with my wife of 15 years, Rae. I actually met her on the steps of Agape Baptist Church the summer of our 5th grade year. Rae has been attending here since she was 10 years old. I began attending when we started dating at 15 years of age and have been a member since I was 18. We have two boys, Cole, who just turned 12 in March, and Chase, who turned 10 in April. I am very blessed to have such a wonderful family. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior when I was 12 years old. Rae was saved at the age of 11. It is also a joy to proclaim that both of my children have accepted the Lord as well.

I am also very blessed to be a part of such a wonderfully loving family at Agape. I have been involved in several ministries over the years. Right now Rae and I are leading the teens on Sunday nights at 6:00. I have also started a Sunday School class that focuses on marriage and parent/child relationships. God has also called me to serve as Deacon at Agape. There is no doubt that this is where God would have me to serve. My prayer is that through spiritual growth I will continue for myself, my family, and my Church family through serving Him here.

My goal as Deacon is to serve the Lord and the Agape family just as he would have me to. I very much strive to be a Deacon such as is described in the Bible. In Acts 6:3-8 a Deacon is described as one who is of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit, men of wisdom, and men of faith. I strive to live my life in a biblical way at Church, at home, at work, and in the community. I am also a spiritual man. I am concerned about souls. I believe that when people are filled with the Holy Spirit they can know the eternal plan and purpose of God. They can then understand the Great Commission. I try to be very tactful and wise in Christian grace and courtesy concerning Church problems.

1 Timothy 3:8-13 states other qualities a Deacon should have. He should be grave, not double tounged, not addicted to drink, not greedy. He should hold the mystery of the word in a pure conscience and his family relations should be right. As your Deacon, I try my best, with God’s help, to live this way.

I am very excited about what God has done and what He continues to do at Agape. I have witnessed tremendous spiritual growth in our Church family over the last few years. God has so much more for us yet to come. He is preparing us all for what He is going to do at Agape. We all play a vital role in the spiritual growth of others. Each person is blessed with a unique gift that helps and inspires others. If we fulfill our roles we will see a much greater tendency for immature believers to grow in their faith and become mature believers. If we do this the lives of believers will be ready to do every good work of God, our families will be stronger, our communities will be influenced for God, the Church will be strong and vibrant, and most of all, God will be glorified! 1 John 2:6 says, “he that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also to walk, even as He walked.”

If you are reading this and you are not sure that you have a personal relationship with God and that you will go to heaven when you die, please read “How to become a Christian”. There is no way to describe the joy of the Christian life to those who are not believers. I challenge you to search your heart and soul and examine yourself before God. The greatest thing that could ever happen to you would be for God to open your heart to His understanding and for you to accept Him as your personal savior today.

I want my Church family to know that I pray for each of you on a regular basis. If there is ever anything I can do for you, please let me know. I am here for you and your family. I would like to thank you all for your prayers. I very much look forward to what God has in store for all of us at Agape!

In Christ,

Jay Johnson
